Glasgow Monthly Meeting

October Meeting: Understanding Orchid Names

Confused by orchid names on social media or plant labels?

You’re not alone! This session will demystify how orchid names are written and explain the conventions behind them — from genus and species to hybrids and cultivars. You’ll learn how to correctly label your plants and where to find reliable naming information, helping you record and share your orchids with confidence.

Join us for an afternoon that brings clarity to orchid naming and strengthens your understanding of the plants you love. We will also have some orchid plants and seedlings for sale.

General Information

Our Glasgow meetings offer a friendly and relaxed space to learn more about orchids, whether you’re just starting out or have years of growing experience. Each session features either an illustrated talk or a practical demonstration led by our resident experts, who are always happy to answer questions on cultivation, pests, diseases, and general orchid care.

You’ll also find a table show of members’ plants — a great chance to see a variety of orchids, share ideas, and enjoy informal conversation with fellow enthusiasts. Refreshments are available throughout the afternoon.

Doors open at 1:30pm, and your first visit is free. If you’re curious about orchids or simply want to meet friendly growers, you’ll be very welcome.
