Orchid Fair 2023

The Glasgow Botanic Gardens Orchid Fair 2023 will be held on the 13th and 14th May, with free entry for everyone. Held within the Grade A listed Kibble Palace, this is an opportunity for the public to come and not only admire displays of these exotic plants, but also to purchase a wide range of orchids from specialist nurseries.

The Scottish Orchid Society has had a long association with the Gardens and assists with the running of this annual event. Now in its 24th year, this remains the only dedicated orchid show in Scotland.

Members of the Society will be on hand to offer advice and the full list of participants is shown below.

On the Saturday at 2:00pm Christine Nicholson, the orchid propagator at the Gardens, will lead a guided tour behind the scenes of the orchid collection. Places on this are limited and if you are interested on going on this, please enquire at the Scottish Orchid Society’s display.

There will be orchid displays by the Scottish Orchid Society, the North of England Orchid Society and the North East of England Orchid Society. We will also be joined by Dr Helen Millner who will showcase her RHS Gold Medal exhibit entitled Life as an epiphyte. If you want to learn how orchids grow in tropical rainforests around the world, this will explain all.

A wide variety of orchids will be on sale from Burnham Orchids making a welcome return all the way from Newton Abbot in South Devon and for the first in Glasgow, Orchid Botanics. They are based in Bristol and specialise in rare and unusual orchids. Carnivorous plants will be on sale from Scotland Carnivorous Plants and Cacti and Succulent plants will be available on the Saturday from Pip’s Cactus.

The Friends of Glasgow Botanic Gardens and the Glasgow and District Beekeepers’ Association will also be in attendance.
