Glasgow Monthly Meeting

Topic for this month: Launch of the 2024/25 Seedling Competition

Dendrobium lawesii comes in a variety of colours. When crossing the red variety with the bicolor pink/white (see images above) the outcome can be quite diverse and this forms the basis of our seedling competition.

Glasgow Botanic Gardens have generously donated seedlings produced from the cross of these two colour forms in July 2022. These seedlings have been removed from their flasks and are now growing in community pots filled with sphagnum moss. During this meeting, members will have the opportunity to choose their seedling (while supplies last) and pot it in their preferred medium. A nominal fee will be charged to fund the acquisition of more orchid flasks, ensuring a continuous supply of seedlings for future events. We will invite members to return with their plants in a year when a prize will be awarded to the best-grown specimen.

Join us for our monthly meeting in Glasgow. Our meetings can consist of an illustrated talk or practical sessions where you can learn aspects of orchid cultivation under the guidance of our resident experts who will also be happy to answer your queries on orchid cultivation and/or pest and disease control. We usually have a table show of members’ plants with plenty of opportunities to socialise and exchange ideas. Refreshments are available. Why not come along and see what we have to offer. Your first meeting is free. Doors open from 1:30pm.
