About Us

The Society was originally formed in 1958 with the aim of promoting interest in the culture, conservation of orchids and the furtherance of scientific knowledge about them. The Society and its membership also endeavour to support conservation of our native orchids ensuring that we do nothing to undermine that aim.

We have local branches in Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow with each branch having regular meetings. For individuals who cannot attend branch meetings due to geographic considerations the Society operates a Country Members section.

All members of the Society are welcome to attend any branch meeting.

For individual branch details please click on the link above.

If you have just bought your first orchid, or if you have a few and want to learn more, please feel free to attend one of our meetings. Membership is open to everyone who has an interest in orchids. Whether you are a beginner, novice or expert you will be made most welcome.

Orchids are for everyone. The Scottish Orchid Society wants to dispel the myth that they are difficult plants.
